Safety first. A trigger that's too light, or a spring that's fitted wrong, can let a rifle fire when the bolt closes or when it's bumped. Tikka's manual says not to set its trigger below 2.5 lb (11 N) [1]. Several of these springs are sold to go lighter than that. Mountain Tactical recommends professional gunsmith installation [2]. If in doubt, use a gunsmith.

- Factory adjustment costs nothing and keeps you inside the maker's published range: Tikka 2.5–4 lb [1], CZ 457 standard 8–15 N (about 1.8–3.4 lb) [3], Ruger American Rimfire 3–5 lb [4].
- A spring swap ($10–$20) keeps the factory trigger and its safety parts but changes the force on the trigger. Makers publish lighter ranges, for example 12–24 oz (Mountain Tactical) [2] or about 1–2 lb springs (Lumley) [5].
- A drop-in trigger ($175–$225 here) replaces the whole unit: Timney CZ 457 10 oz–2 lb at $174.99 [6], Jard CZ 457 $179.95 [7], TriggerTech Tikka Special 1–3.5 lb at $224.99 [8], Timney Tikka two-stage $199.99 [9]. It's the bigger change, and in NRL22 it moves you out of Base (see below).
Does the T1x share the T3/T3x trigger?
Tikka doesn't say so in the manual we checked, but every spring and trigger maker here sells the same part for the T3, T3x and T1x: Mountain Tactical lists the T1x with the T3 and T3x [2], Lumley names the T1x, T3 and T3x [5], YoDave sells one "Tikka T3, T3X and T1X" spring [10], and TriggerTech and Timney sell one unit for all three [8] [9]. That's strong evidence the trigger housing is shared, but it's the makers' compatibility statement, not a Tikka drawing.
CZ 457: installation overview
The YoDave kit is CZ 457-specific (it's sold separately from CZ 452/455 parts) [11] [12]. YoDave's own installation notes walk through it [13], and CZ's manual covers the factory adjustment screws [3].
Not verified for the CZ 457: a DIP (Diversified Innovative Products) "CZ 457 reduced power spring". The DIP kit we found is for the CZ 452/455 [14]; don't buy it for a 457. CZ Parts sells a CZ 457 lighter spring kit and warns that the lowest settings can make a rifle fire on its own when released or dropped [15].
Tikka T1x: installation overview
Follow the maker's instructions and video: Mountain Tactical (gunsmith install recommended) [2] [16], Lumley Arms [5], YoDave [10].
Ruger American Rimfire: overview
M*CARBO says its kit is compatible with Ruger American rimfire rifles and lowers pull from about 3 lb to about 2 lb (±1 lb) [17]. Follow M*CARBO's printable instructions [18].
Hardware-store springs: don't substitute a generic spring. Wire diameter, length and rate decide whether the sear holds. None of the makers above publishes a generic-spring option, and an unknown spring can make the rifle unsafe.
After any trigger work: function checks (unloaded)
Do these with the rifle unloaded, magazine out, pointed in a safe direction. These are standard unloaded checks, summarized here; your maker's instructions take priority:
- Safety: with the safety on, the trigger must not release the striker. Check it several times.
- Trigger reset and release: the trigger should release cleanly and reset every time.
- Bolt-close test: close the bolt firmly and quickly several times; the striker must stay cocked.
- Pull weight: measure it with a gauge and stay within the range the maker publishes. Tikka's factory floor is 2.5 lb [1]; CZ's standard trigger is 8–15 N [3].
Mountain Tactical and Lumley also call for a drop or bump test [16] [5]. We don't describe one here: if your rifle fails any check, or you aren't confident testing it, stop and take it to a gunsmith. CZ Parts warns that the lightest settings can fire a rifle when it's released or dropped [15].
NRL22: are trigger springs allowed in Base?
Yes, with limits. Rule 5.B.3.d of the current NRL22 rules says aftermarket triggers aren't allowed in Base Division; the only changes allowed to the factory trigger are replacing springs, safely adjusting pull weight and polishing internal parts [19]. So a spring kit in the factory trigger keeps a rifle Base-eligible, while a Timney, Jard or TriggerTech drop-in moves it to Open. Base also has a $1,650 rifle-plus-scope MSRP cap (Rule 5.B.3); check yours with the NRL22 Base calculator.

FAQ
Is a trigger spring legal in NRL22 Base?
Yes. Rule 5.B.3.d allows replacing springs, safe pull-weight adjustment and polishing in the factory trigger, but not aftermarket triggers.
How light can a Tikka T1x trigger go?
Tikka's manual says not to go below 2.5 lb. Aftermarket springs are sold to go lighter (e.g. 12–24 oz), which is outside Tikka's guidance.
Does the DIP CZ spring kit fit a CZ 457?
The DIP kit we found is for the CZ 452/455. For a 457, use a 457-specific spring such as YoDave's.
Does the M*CARBO Ruger American spring fit the rimfire?
M*CARBO lists it as compatible with Ruger American rimfire rifles.
