Quick answer
The CZ 457 barrel is held in the receiver by two set screws, so a barrel can be changed with hand tools and no barrel vise. CZ's manual describes the process. Aftermarket prefit barrels (for example Lilja via Area 419) make it a popular upgrade. If you're unsure about headspace or torque, use a gunsmith.

We haven't tested this hands-on yet. Everything below comes from manufacturer specs, regulations and published sources, cited inline. Prices are maker MSRPs as listed in October 2026 unless noted.

How it works

CZ designed the 457 so barrels can be exchanged. The barrel slips into the receiver and is held with set screws, as described in the 457 instruction manual [1]. The 455 used the same idea [2]; see 457 vs 455.

Typical steps (follow your manual)

  1. Unload and remove bolt and magazine; remove the stock.
  2. Loosen the barrel retaining screws with the right hex key.
  3. Slide the old barrel out and the new one in, observing the extractor slot orientation.
  4. Torque the screws to the value in the manual or barrel maker's instructions, using a torque wrench.
  5. Check function with dummy rounds, then re-zero (zero guide).

FAQ

Can I swap a CZ 457 barrel at home?

CZ designed it to be swappable with set screws. Follow the manual, and use a gunsmith if you're unsure.

Do CZ 455 barrels fit the 457?

They're not a drop-in match in every case. Check with the barrel maker; see our 457 vs 455 guide.

Do I need to check headspace?

Prefit barrels are made to headspace on the action. If a bolt doesn't close smoothly on a dummy round, stop and see a gunsmith.
