Before your first match: prep checklist
General preparation. The league's current rulebook and the match director's instructions always take priority.
- Read the current rules on the league site: classes and any equipment or price limits change from year to year.
- Zero and data: confirm your 50-yd zero with match ammo and record your holds or dope out to the longest stated distance.
- Torque check: action screws and rail/rings to spec (see gunsmithing). Mark screws with a paint pen so you can spot movement.
- Magazines: enough loaded magazines for the stage round counts in the match book, and function-test every magazine first.
- Ammo: the round count from the match book plus a spare box, from one lot if you can.
- Support gear: bipod, rear bag, barricade bag, and a mat if the stage allows.
- Safety: eye and ear protection, chamber flag, and a case or sling that meets range rules.
- Tools: a small torque driver and bits, a cleaning rod for a stuck case (clean from the breech), and spare batteries for the optic.
- Admin: registration confirmation and any fees, and arrive in time for the safety brief.
