1. Light strikes / misfires
- Symptom: Rounds need a second strike. Shallow firing-pin dents. One CGN owner had misfires with CCI, Federal and Remington in a new 457 Varmint .22 WMR.
- Causes:
- The manual lists a fouled firing-pin hole, or the wrong lubricant in low temperatures.
- That owner found the firing pin had shed flakes of surface material. A thorough bolt clean fixed it ("much deeper/sharper strike marks").
- Other owners point to excess headspace and firing-pin protrusion (ideal ~.035-.039 in, per one post).
- One commenter says the factory pin is profiled to suit both .22 LR and magnum rims.
- Fixes:
- Strip and degrease the bolt. Use minimal lube.
- Check firing-pin protrusion and headspace (bolt shims).
- Re-profile the firing pin (gunsmith).
- Replace the pin (CZ-USA $32) or use warranty service.

2. MTR extraction / ejection
- Symptom: The empty case stays in the chamber or drops on top of the mag (lazy ejection). Worse with some ammo (e.g., SK Rifle Match).
- Owner reports: One says "extraction issues are fairly common with the 457 MTR" (early production). Another rifle developed the issue after an IBI barrel swap.
- Fixes reported:
- Replace the extractor (fixed one rifle where a new holder and spring did not).
- Replace the extractor C-spring.
- Bolt shims after a barrel change ("problem solved and accuracy improved").
- Deburr the claws.
- Recent reports: A 2026 RFC thread title, "UPDATE 4/1/26: CZ457 MTR Firing/Extraction Issues", suggests ongoing reports (content not readable).

3. Headspace and barrel swaps
- The issue: CZ's Mini-set manual says each exchange barrel "must be fitted individually by a gunsmith" with a chamber gauge, and may need material removed from the shoulder or face. CZ's product pages advertise "User-swappable barrels and calibers."
- What owners find: Factory headspace measured ~.046 in on one rifle, against a SAAMI .22 LR chamber range of .043-.051 in. Aftermarket drop-ins (IBI, L3i) may differ; L3i includes a shim pack.
- Fix / site advice:
- Check headspace with go/no-go gauges after any barrel change.
- Use bolt shims (triggershims.com) to tune.
- Recommend a gunsmith for first fitting.

4. Barrel seating / screw order
- Symptom: POI shift, poor groups or bolt binding after a barrel swap.
- Cause: Not loosening the mag-housing rear screw, or tightening the barrel screws before it.
- Fix:
- Loosen the mag-housing rear screw 1-2 turns, seat the barrel, and tighten the mag-housing screw first.
- Then torque the barrel screws to 5.5 Nm.
- Refit the stock screws at 3.5 Nm.
- Fit or remove the .22 LR mag-housing insert as needed.
- Confidence: high
- Source: Mini-set manual (above)
5. Action-screw torque / stiff or clunky bolt
- Symptom: Stringing, or a bolt that binds or feels "clunky" after the stock is reassembled.
- Fix:
- Use the official 3.5 Nm (~31 in-lb).
- Test small torque changes.
- Polish high spots, and check that the cocking indicator isn't binding.

6. Groups disappointing out of the box
- What happened: American Rifleman's VPC test gun first averaged 0.90 in at 50 yd. After a thorough bore cleaning it improved to 0.660 in average and 0.310 in best (CCI SV).
- Advice: Clean the bore, then test several ammo lots. Match-chamber rifles are ammo-sensitive.

7. Dovetail scope bases slipping
- The issue: Area 419 says "simple dovetail/set screw bases" slide around over time. The receiver isn't drilled and tapped; it only has 4 partial index holes for CZ's rail.
- Fix: Use a full-length clamp rail (Area 419 at 22 in-lb, EGW HD, CZUB rail) or 11 mm rings with a recoil stop.

8. Chassis mag-release access and accessory conflicts
- The issue: Anarchy: "Magazine releases for the Masterpiece Chassis, KRG Bravo Chassis, and other chassis can be hard to access."
- Incompatibilities to flag:
- Anarchy's extended release isn't compatible with metal CZ magazines.
- Anarchy bottom metal isn't compatible with the LRP stock or the WOOX chassis.
- KRG Bravo CZ-457 isn't compatible with the CZ 455.
- Fixes:
- Anarchy extended release ($24.99).
- MDT extended latch kit ($59.99).
- KRG mag-well insert (ships with Bravo) or Anarchy mag filler.
- Confidence: high

9. Barrel/stock channel mismatch
- The issue: CZ's compatibility chart: Varmint, Varmint MTR and Long Range Precision barrels don't fit American, Lux, Premium, Training Rifle, Jaguar XII or Royal stocks. Boyds CZ 457 stocks have a 7/8 in channel, so .900-1.180 in aftermarket barrels need inletting.

10. CZ 455 vs 457 confusion
- Interchangeable: barrels and magazines.
- Not interchangeable:
- Stocks: the 457 receiver is ~1 in shorter with a different guard.
- Triggers: Timney and JARD both make separate 455 and 457 models; JARD is not 455-compatible.
- Scope bases.
- The KRG Bravo inlet.
- Confidence: high
- Sources: CZ manual ("Barrels and magazines are compatible with the CZ 455"); https://jardinc.com/cz-457 ; https://timneytriggers.com/cz-457/ ; RFC (snippet)
11. Muzzle thread confusion
- The issue: CZ says all non-US barrels are 1/2x20 UNF. US threaded models and barrel sets are 1/2x28. CZ US pages list 1/2x24 for Hunter Veil and Target, and a retailer lists Hunter Strata as 1/2x28 while CZ says 1/2x20.
- Site policy: Show thread pitch per region on every muzzle-device listing.
- Confidence: high
- Sources: compatibility chart notes; https://www.czfirearms.com/en-us/news/three-new-cz-457-rimfire-rifles ; CZ US model pages
12. Feeding failures
- Symptom: Last-round or nose-dive feeds.
- Fix: Check follower orientation, spring and feed lips. Try another mag or ammo.
- Confidence: low
- Sources: Reddit r/CZFirearms, RFC "Ejection issues with CZ 457" (snippets)
13. Trigger adjustment below safe range
- The issue: The manual warns not to set pull or travel too low, and requires a bolt-cycle/safety check.
- Products that go below factory range:
- JARD: down to 3 oz
- Timney: down to 10 oz
- YoDave and cz-parts spring kits
- Flyweight: 90 g
- Site policy: Label these competition-only and recommend gunsmith install and function checks.
- Confidence: high
- Source: CZ manual
14. Short barrels and the NFA (US)
- The issue: Grey Birch's Danger Noodle 12.5 in CZ457 barrel makes a short-barreled rifle under federal law unless the rifle is registered (SBR) or the barrel goes on a lawful configuration.
- Site policy: Add a legal note on any <16 in barrel listing.
- Confidence: high (legal fact)
- Source: https://gbmfg.co/barrels/danger-noodle-cz-457/
15. CZ website spec errors
- Examples:
- Varmint MTR shows "406 mm / 20 in".
- Scout shows 12 grooves and "83.2 mm" OAL.
- The Synthetic 22 WMR row is partly in Czech.
- Hunter Veil and Target show "1/2 x 24".
- Site policy: Cross-check with catalogs and retailer data before publishing. Our variants.csv flags these.
- Confidence: high

16. Limited LH options
- The issue: Only American LH, Varmint LH and Premium LH exist. The XLR Element is RH only. EGW LH rails take 4-6 weeks.
- Confidence: high
- Sources: CZ US / 2022 catalog; XLR; EGW
Accuracy reference
American Rifleman VPC: 0.310 in best / 0.660 in average (5 shots, 50 yd, CCI SV). CZ MTR guarantee: 15 mm at 50 m. Target guarantee: 12 mm (10-shot).
